Items known as WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment), such as fridges, freezers, televisions, computers and microwaves, cannot be placed in a skip. They contain heavy metals, refrigerants and valuable components that need specialist recycling and cannot be processed at a standard waste transfer station. Take them to a local recycling centre or a retailer that offers take-back.
Large Batteries
Car batteries and other large batteries contain hazardous materials such as lead, acid or lithium-ion cells. They can leak, contaminate the rest of the skip and, in rare cases, catch fire during transport or processing. They must be taken to a specialist battery recycling collection point.
Gas Cylinders
