Electrical Equipment and Appliances

Items classed as WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) cannot go in a skip. Fridges, freezers, televisions, computers and microwaves contain heavy metals and refrigerant gases that need specialist recycling and cannot be processed at a standard waste transfer station. Take them to a household recycling centre or use a retailer take-back scheme.

Large Batteries

Car batteries and large industrial batteries are not accepted. They contain lead and acid that can leak in transit, contaminating the whole load and turning it into hazardous waste. Garages, scrap metal merchants and household recycling centres take them, usually free of charge.

Gas Cylinders

Gas cylinders are prohibited whether full or empty. They stay pressurised and combustible, creating a risk of fire or explosion during transport and at the transfer station - even an apparently empty cylinder holds residual gas. Return them to the original supplier or a gas stockist.

Medical Waste

Medical and clinical waste is not allowed in a skip and cannot legally be handled by a skip hire company. Needles, syringes, soiled dressings and pharmaceutical waste carry an infection risk, so they must go to a licensed clinical waste contractor. Unused medicines can be returned to a pharmacy.

Asbestos

Asbestos is an extremely hazardous material linked to serious lung disease and cancer, and it is illegal to mix any quantity of it with general rubbish. Older Hanwell properties can still contain it in garage roofs, soffits and floor tiles. B&K does not remove asbestos - you will need a licensed asbestos removal contractor.

Tyres

Tyres are banned from landfill and need a dedicated recycling route, and they are bulky enough to damage sorting machinery. Take old tyres to a registered tyre recycling facility, or leave them with a tyre fitter when you buy replacements.

Fuel, Solvents, and Paints

Liquids such as fuel, solvents, paints and oils are banned from our skips. They are flammable, toxic or polluting, can ignite in transit and can contaminate groundwater if they leak. Your local council's hazardous waste service or household recycling centre will take them - fully hardened, dried-out paint tins are usually accepted.

8 Yard Skip

Capacity: approx. 6 m³ (around 60-70 standard bin bags)

Max load: up to 8 tonnes

Best for: domestic renovations, garden clearances and small building jobs, plus heavy waste such as soil, concrete and rubble.

The smallest size we offer and our most popular - compact enough for most driveways and a standard parking bay.

12 Yard Skip

Capacity: approx. 9 m³ (around 80-100 standard bin bags)

Max load: up to 7 tonnes

Best for: bulky but lighter rubbish from large house clearances, shop-fitting and office clear-outs - furniture and large packaging.

Not suitable for filling entirely with heavy rubbish like soil or hardcore - choose the 8-yard for those.

16 Yard Skip

Capacity: approx. 12 m³ (around 120-130 standard bin bags)

Max load: up to 7 tonnes

Best for: substantial projects - commercial and construction sites generating light, bulky waste.

Our maxi skip. If it needs to go on public land, we will arrange the skip hire permit for you.

Choose Skip Hire when...

• You have a large or multi-day project, such as a renovation or building work.
• You want to load waste at your own pace, over up to 14 days.
• You have space for a skip - a driveway, or a public road where we can arrange a permit.
• You are clearing heavier waste such as soil, rubble or construction materials.

Choose Rubbish Removal when...

• Access is limited - no driveway, a skip lorry can't fit, or a permit is not possible.
• You need a one-off, same-day clearance rather than an ongoing skip.
• Our cage van handles it: 1 tonne loading capacity, or up to 5 tonnes with the large cage.
• It is a wait-and-load service - your waste is loaded within a standard 30-minute window, so please have it ready and accessible.
