Types of Waste Not Suitable for Our Skip Hire, Camden
Electrical Equipment & Appliances
Items classed as WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) cannot go in a skip. This includes fridges, freezers, televisions, computers and microwaves. They contain refrigerants and heavy metals that need specialist recycling and cannot be processed at a standard waste transfer station. Take them to your local recycling centre or a WEEE recycler.
Large Batteries
Car batteries and large industrial batteries are not accepted. They contain lead and acid that can leak in transit, contaminating the rest of the load and making the whole skip hazardous. Take them to a designated battery collection point, a scrap yard or a garage that accepts them.
Gas Cylinders
Full or empty gas cylinders are strictly prohibited. They stay pressurised and combustible, creating a risk of fire or explosion during transport and at the transfer station. Even an empty cylinder holds residual gas. Return them to the original supplier or a cylinder refill point.
Medical Waste
Needles, syringes, soiled dressings, pharmaceuticals and biological waste are classed as medical waste and carry health and contamination risks. Our skips in Camden are not a suitable disposal route - this waste must be handled by a licensed medical waste contractor, and unused medicines can be returned to a pharmacy.
Asbestos
Asbestos is still present in plenty of Camden's older housing stock. It is linked to serious illness and it is illegal to mix it with general rubbish, so it cannot go in our skips. You must use a licensed asbestos removal contractor - contact us and we can point you to one.
