Electrical Equipment and Appliances

WEEE items - white goods and electronics such as fridges, freezers, televisions, computers and microwaves - cannot go in a skip. They contain heavy metals and refrigerant gases that need specialist recycling and cannot be processed at a standard waste transfer station. Take them to a household recycling centre or use a retailer take-back scheme.

Large Batteries

Car and industrial batteries are strictly prohibited. The lead and acid inside can leak in transit and contaminate the rest of the load, turning a skip of recyclable waste into hazardous waste. Use a designated battery collection point, or a scrap metal dealer that accepts them.

Gas Cylinders

Pressurised canisters and cylinders present a severe risk of fire and explosion during collection, storage and sorting, and even an empty unit holds hazardous residue. Both full and empty cylinders are excluded from our services - return them to the original supplier or a stockist that takes cylinders back.

Medical Waste

Medical and biological waste - needles, syringes, soiled dressings and pharmaceutical waste - may be bio-hazardous and must be handled by a licensed clinical waste operator using specialist containment. Our skips cannot accommodate these materials; unused medicines can be returned to a pharmacy.

Asbestos

Asbestos is a highly dangerous, carcinogenic material that requires specific containment, transport and disposal, and it is illegal to mix it with general rubbish. B&K does not remove asbestos - you need a licensed asbestos removal contractor. Get in touch and we can point you in the right direction.

Tyres

Tyres are banned from landfill across the UK and must go through specialised processing plants, and they are bulky enough to damage sorting machinery. That way old rubber gets recycled and repurposed instead. Take them to a registered tyre recycling facility, or leave them with the garage when new ones are fitted.

Fuel, Solvents, and Paints

We do not collect fuels, paints, oils, solvents or other liquid chemicals, including containers with leftover residues. They are flammable, toxic or polluting, can ignite in transit and can contaminate groundwater if they leak. The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea can advise on household hazardous waste disposal points.

8 YARD SKIP

Capacity: approx. 6 m³ (around 60-70 standard bin bags)

Max load: up to 8 tonnes

Best for: domestic renovations, garden clearances, lighter construction work, and heavy waste such as soil, concrete and rubble.

Often called a builder's skip - our most popular option, and it fits comfortably on most Kensington driveways.

12 YARD SKIP

Capacity: approx. 9 m³ (around 80-100 standard bin bags)

Max load: up to 7 tonnes

Best for: full office clear-outs, large property renovations and bulky items such as old furniture and packaging.

Not suitable for filling entirely with heavy rubbish like soil or hardcore - choose the 8-yard for those.

16 YARD SKIP

Capacity: approx. 12 m³ (around 120-130 standard bin bags)

Max load: up to 7 tonnes

Best for: major construction sites and extensive clearances producing light, bulky waste.

Our maxi skip - it cuts down the number of collections and keeps on-site logistics simple.

Choose Skip Hire when...

• You have a large or multi-day project, such as a renovation or building work.
• You want to load waste at your own pace, over up to 14 days.
• You have space for a skip - a driveway, or a public road where we can arrange a permit.
• You are clearing heavier waste such as soil, rubble or construction materials.

Choose Rubbish Removal when...

• Access is limited - no driveway, a skip lorry can't fit, or a permit is not possible.
• You need a one-off, same-day clearance rather than an ongoing skip.
• Our cage van handles it: 1 tonne loading capacity, or up to 5 tonnes with the large cage.
• It is a wait-and-load service - your waste is loaded within a standard 30-minute window, so please have it ready and accessible.
